First of all, what is fasting?
- In practice, it is when a person is deprived of food (meat or solid food, or any kind of food) and gives more time to pray and commune with God;
- In essence, it is when a person separates him/herself from the physical world, to be more in the spirit.
Implication:
- Fasting without prayer is nothing but a hunger strike;
- Fasting is not a way to have more time to do your activities, but to have more time with God. This is not to spend less in the family’s need, but to spend more on God and God's family’s need (the poor financially or emotionally ...).
- Fasting is not to twist God’s hand to answer, but for our spirit to be strong to fight with him, at his side against the enemy.
- Fasting is not a commandment we need to do to please God, but a way for us to live our love for God, nothing is important to us but God.
- Fasting is not for others, but for God. Do it for God and never wait applause from others (by showing tired faces) by fasting, presenting to them that you are pious enough or you do something more than the others. Practice it with a spirit of full humility;
- Fasting is rather a time for others than for yourself;
